Barwaaqo Project – Hargeisa Somaliland
By: Pete
Apr 9, 2019

We are delighted to report that we are now working in Somaliland with a grass roots agency Barwaaqo Voluntary Association, based in Hargeisa and working across Somaliland (not to be confused with Somalia, which is the area to the east with the capital Mogadishu – Somaliland is a new state, building strong and democratic communities).  Barwaaqo is a Somali word meaning ‘prosperity’ – but much more than just material wellbeing but it refers to all aspects of a good and full  life.  BVO was founded in 1996 and prioritises women and child rights.  We will be working with them on helping farmers rebuild communities after devastating droughts.  Watch this space for more details and how to donate.  In our picture, Here Khadra Hosein and Aden Ali of BVO (right) discuss future co-operation with Mulugeta Gebru (JeCCDO) and Pete Jones (PfC)
