Our Team

PFC Ethiopia is managed by a committed group of trustees who have a varied set of skills and experience, with a small but dedicated staff and many enthusiastic volunteers.

Colin Battell
Colin Battell

Colin is the founder of Partners for Change Ethiopia (PFC Ethiopia) which he set up during the 1983-1985 famine when he was Chaplain of St Matthews Anglican Church in Addis Ababa. 

He worked alongside an Ethiopian Orthodox church group, the Jerusalem Memorial Association to care for 1,000 children and since then we have evolved with a focus on supporting local communities to care for their children.

Colin is now a Roman Catholic Benedictine monk but remains a trustee and honorary President of PFC Ethiopia.

John Binns
John Binns

John is co-chair of trustees. He first visited Ethiopia in 1993 where he encountered JeCCDO projects and has kept in touch since then, visiting regularly and supporting the work of PfC in the UK. He has also researched the life and the history of the church in Ethiopia, and wrote The Orthodox Church of Ethiopia: A History, published in 2017. He is an Anglican priest and was vicar of the university church in Cambridge for over 20 years and retired from that in 2017. He now lives in Staffordshire and enjoys exploring the wonderful countryside and baking bread.

Andrew Proud

Andrew is Co-Chair of Trustees alongside John. He was Bishop of the Horn of Africa from 2007 to 2011 and was especially concerned with refugee communities on the border of Ethiopia and South Sudan. He was also a trustee of our partner organisation JeCCDO including as secretary for five years. On his return to the UK he became Bishop of Reading for 8 years and is now a licensed honorary assistant Bishop in Peterborough Diocese.

Andrew sings with the Northampton Chamber Choir and loves to tend his double allotment with his wife Janice. He is passionate about art, long leisurely walks, whipping up delicious meals, discovering new music and reading historical fiction!

Gary Battell
Gary Battell

Gary is Suffolk County Council’s woodland advisor, where he has worked for 22 years. He has set up a project to enable coffee producer co-operatives to export their harvest to the UK and a platform for films about SDGs.

Margaret Johnston
Margaret Johnston

Margaret is an experienced administrator having worked for the Department of Earth Science at Cambridge University and as an Executive Secretary of the European Union of Geosciences. She is Churchwarden at Great St Mary’s, the University Church Cambridge, where she is responsible for developing partnerships in mission overseas and at home. She is an avid tennis player and loves walking her two dogs.

Christine Brown
Christine Brown

After her retirement as a Therapeutic Radiographer, Christine  volunteered in the PFC office for six years and looked after our administrative work. In her spare time she loves Nordic walking, travelling and crafting delicious international cuisine, with a particular fondness for Ethiopian dishes!

Caroline Field
Caroline Field

Caroline is an International photographer based in London with over 25 years of photographic experience. She has a passion for travel and people photography. She loves to observe people and capture relaxed natural portraits. As a Mum of 3 boys and a labrador puppy she doesn’t get much spare time but when she does she enjoys all sports including running, bootcamp and yoga. Caroline has successfully set up links between schools in London and Ethiopia and has also captured stunning photographs of our projects in Ethiopia

Roy Warden

Roy joined PFC Ethiopia in 2016 as trustee and treasurer following a career in the civil service.  He is experienced in financial management and organisational governance.  He has travelled widely, including to Ethiopia.

 

Angela Robson
Angela Robson

Angela is an award-winning journalist, documentary maker and communications consultant. She has visited countries on every continent and has reported from more than fifty countries for the BBC, the Guardian, Le Monde, Comic Relief and many other media organisations, foundations and charities. 

Girma Tadele 
Girma Moges Tadele

Girma is a tourism professional with expertise in rural tourism development. In 2015, he founded Tadele Travel, a specialist tour operator providing high end tailored travel to Ethiopia. Prior to that he worked for TESFA (Tourism in Ethiopia for Sustainable Future Alternatives) for 4 years where he helped develop community based tourism in North Wollo, Maket and Lasta districts. He is also the Founder of MuluTesfa CIC, a social enterprise that aims to combat rural poverty and gender inequality through the development of cultural tourism in rural north Ethiopia. 

In his spare time he volunteers at the Stoneham community Bakehouse in Brighton. He enjoys cooking, running and cycling and has developed a passion for travel photography. 

Rose Yombo-Djema 
Our Team

Rose is our Campaign Officer.  She brings over ten years experience in fundraising and international project management having worked for charities involved in international development, cancer, military and children. When she is not fundraising she loves travelling and is always planning where to go on her next adventure!
